Upcoming singer-songwriter and producer Luna has just revealed her final single ‘Forest Song’ , taken from her debut ‘Nostalgia’ EP ,out now.
A haunting and beautiful dark-pop offering, ‘Forest Song’ delves into themes of both analysing and rationalising the past. In Luna’s own words, ‘Forest Song less focused on bitterness and blame, and more on reflection. It feels like crawling out of myself and the anxiety spoken about in other singles and starting to believe things can be different, but not quite knowing how to make that a reality yet. Overall though despite the darkness of the whole EP, it was important to me to convey that there is always light and there is always hope.’
Luna confesses to struggling with anxiety and aims to embed her experiences into her music, which she finds an extremely cathartic process. She describes her debut ‘Nostalgia’ EP as, ‘a summing up of my personal mindset during the last two years. Try Again and Immortalise are fast-paced and jaunted at times, full of this nervous energy which is really representative of how I was when the concepts of the songs came up. Then Forest Song is split into these two sections where things become less focused on bitterness and blame, and more on reflection. Nostalgia itself feels like the perfect end to the story; like finally admitting to yourself that something has passed, and asking what happens now’?
Growing up around the London music scene, Luna began writing as a child while self-teaching guitar. She is currently studying at the London School of Economics, but previously interned at Young Turks for several months, which opened her eyes to more electronic music. An avid gig goer and music lover, her stint as an intern was unpaid so she worked on the bar at 02 Shepherds Bush Empire, ‘I love watching live music, so thought it was the perfect side job!’ Later influence from ticketing start-up Dice immersed Luna in pop after growing up on folk artists like Bob Dylan and Laura Marling.
Luna is currently rehearsing her live show and will be appearing live towards the end of 2018.
