slowthai shares video for recent single ‘Doorman’

slowthai – Doorman

slowthai, the UK’s most electrifying new voice, is exploding into 2019 with his brand-new video for latest single ‘Doorman’, The track, which was produced by Mura Masa, is out now on Method.

‘Doorman’ was the last in a string of singles to be released by slowthai last year. It was a brilliant shift in gear for Northampton born and bred artist and has since gone on to be named one of the standout tracks of the year as well as being added to playlists at both Radio 1 and 6 Music. Bursting with raucous punk energy, ‘Doorman’ yet again saw slowthai pushing back on the powers that govern us, calling to arms all those who want to rise up again the consistent injustices face by every day working class people. The year was rounded off with slowthai being announced as part of BBC’s Sound Of 2019 list.

The video for ‘Doorman’ is unleashed today; a dark, trippy and recklessly gripping visual that pays tribute to iconic British filmmaker Danny Boyle’s ‘Trainspotting’. Within its terrific 3 minutes viewers are invited to join slowthai on a night out, but everything is befittingly twisted and distorted making it a perfectly fitting accompaniment to the captivating song.

Speaking on the track, slowthai said: “I was at some yard in Chelsea after a night out and I saw 4.5 million pound paintings hanging on the wall and it made me sick… I went to the studio the next day and wrote Doorman. Doorman, let me in the door.

Mura Masa added: “Slowthai is the embodiment of subversive and punk energy in UK rap. We knew we wanted to make something with a DIY, rebellious energy together, so we banged Doorman together in a few hours, kept all the original takes and let it be what it is. It’s a record that challenges ideas about what rap can be, which I think the scene needs more of. I love it.
