Pumarosa confirm new single, ‘My Gruesome Loving Friend’, UK tour + Interpol dates (Fiction)

Pumarosa have announced plans for next single ‘My Gruesome Loving Friend’, taken from their critically-acclaimed debut album ‘The Witch’ (out now on Fiction Records).

Recently nominated for ‘Best Breakthrough’ at this year’s Q Awards, the band have also now confirmed a headline run of US and Mexico tour dates and festivals – in addition to two huge shows with Interpol – in the build up to this winter’s UK headline tour (featuring their biggest London show to date at Brixton Electric on December 6th). This follows a breakout few months for Pumarosa, which variously includes making their TV debut on ‘Later…with Jools Holland’ and a packed-out summer of festivals (including Glastonbury, Latitude, Reading & Leeds, Green Man, and Secret Garden Party).

A striking highlight from ‘The Witch’, ‘My Gruesome Loving Friend’ is an anthem of living fearlessly, having been written in tribute to the real-life gruesome loving friend of Isabel. “She has two children and is very conscious and free,” says Isabel. “The way she lives excites me and other people around her, but I also see how the ethos of diving into life can be very dangerous: you are at the same time very powerful and very vulnerable. It’s so brave. So I watch her and learn.

One of the most critically-lauded albums of 2017, ‘The Witch’ is a unique collection of songs that celebrate as well as challenge undercurrents of the present day: collectivism, frustration, euphoria, politics, aggression and love. Produced by Dan Carey, bewitching lead singer and visual artist Isabel’s lyrics are emotionally and politically invested throughout; they deftly paint tales of social coercion, female emancipation and the striving for release. Few new acts combine art, sound and visuals quite like this, though for Pumarosa everything goes hand-in-hand – the results are at once gruesome, and glorious.
