Quickly emerging as one of Germany’s most forward-thinking house music imprints, HDSN’s NBAST (Nothin’ But A Soul Thing) has built its reputation thus far on the sort of tunes that move your mind, your body and aptly enough, your soul. The label’s latest sees the head honcho take the reins once more, with the exceptional sounds of the ‘Soul City Jams’ EP. Featuring no less than four dancefloor driven cuts, these tunes are designed to move the floor in unison. Drop them at the right time, and we’ve little doubt that they’ll have the desired effect.
First up is the sounds of ‘Gotta Be Real’, a piano-led anthem that’s more chilled back in its approach. A beautiful melancholic jam that quickly morphs into a whole new other track.An auspicious start, it neatly paves the way for ‘The Drama Means Nuttin’, a rambunctious and flavoursome house jam that brings to mine classic cuts by the likes of Kerri Chandler and Joe Clausell. Full of punchy drums and a bassline that’s sure to sweep you off your feet, it’s indicative of the fast-rising producer at his most emphatic, this one too is a battle weapon that’s made for liberal, free-spirited dancefloors.
The second half of the release gets underway soon after courtesy of ‘Lucky Aid’. This time around, a gorgeous vocal line is added into the mix, injecting the track with a sultry vibe that’s difficult not to fawn over. The sort of track that would neatly fit into MCDE’s discography, it too is some seriously beautiful club tackle. The producer’s closing salvo is ‘Talking to Butterflies’, another rigorous house cut with roots in the disco era. A blissful track full of zip, vigour and energy, it sees us out the door amongst a crescendo of beautiful dubby flavours. Scrupulously produced house music with a timeless, classic feel, HDSN’s latest is truly a joy to behold.
