Bad Gyal – Unknown Feeling
Few artists have had a more impressive 12 months than Catalan club crossover queen Bad Gyal. Releasing her second mixtape, ‘Worldwide Angel’, to critical acclaim at the start of 2018, Bad Gyal has gained an impressive following for her own unique sound, a hybrid blend of reggaeton, dancehall and progressive club rhythms. After spending the year embarking on a sold out world tour, including packed out showcases at SXSW and The Great Escape, Bad Gyal has returned for her final offering of 2018, a brand new track titled ‘Unknown Feeling’.
Originally devised especially for a dancehall step by the Jamaican crew Xqlusiv, ‘Unknown Feeling’ represents a full circle moment for Bad Gyal. An artist inherently influenced by the sounds of dancehall’s biggest names and unmistakable rhythms, ‘Unknown Feeling’ gives an opportunity for Bad Gyal to directly give back to the culture she loves, providing a sultry, electronically minded jam that stays true to the traditional essence of the genre. Punctuated by a steadily rising melody, ‘Unknown Feeling’ embodies a slow winding groove, packed with nods to dancehall’s organic elements. A rumbling 808 anchors the track as Bad Gyal sings completely in English for the first time, ruminating on an indescribable passion that comes alive with intimacy, whether that be on the dancefloor or beyond. The track also features a rousing guest verse from Kingston, Jamaica’s Qraig Voicemail, connecting the dots between the dancefloor and the heart.

With ‘Unknown Feeling’, Bad Gyal rounds off an incredible 2018 in style, metamorphosing the sonics of traditional dancehall to her own, electronically minded approach. With new music on the horizon, 2019 looks set to be the biggest yet for the artist breaking down boundaries between genres around the world, and in turn creating some of the most unique, exciting tracks released today.
