Jake Shears releases energetic lyric video for new single ‘Meltdown’, live from London

Jake Shears has today shared the energetic and fun-filled lyric video for his incredible new single ‘Meltdown’. The video features footage from his sold-out show in London last autumn.

Bursting with energy, attitude and charisma, ‘Meltdown’ is a return to the dancefloor in the way that only Jake Shears – arguably one of the most trailblazing pop stars of his generation – knows how. “I wrote ‘Meltdown’ on the hottest day of the summer in New York City,” he says now. “It’s a compact little jam born from inspiration in the moment. In a way, it is a tribute to one of the biggest queer music pioneers, Sylvester, who has also been a major vocal and spiritual touchstone for me. You can also hear sprinkles of Hot Chip, Cerrone, Prince and The Presets. ‘Meltdown’ is also a hint of the Sinister Dystopian Dance Pop to come. Let’s call it the SDDP for now. Whatever the case, get ready to put on your boogie-hooves.

Jake Shears is a multi-platinum-selling, Brit-Award-winning and Grammy-nominated artist who, with Scissor Sisters, helped shape the musical landscape as we now know it. Since the band’s hiatus, Shears has written an acclaimed memoir (‘Boys Keep Swinging’), performed on Broadway (in the lead role of ‘Kinky Boots’), composed for the stage (‘Tales Of The City’) and collaborated with the likes of Josh Homme, Kylie Minogue and Nile Rodgers . Jake Shears’ self-titled debut solo album, inspired in large part by his move to New Orleans, was released to widespread critical acclaim and his first solo tour in 2018 (he subsequently performed at the historic WorldPride closing ceremony in New York to mark Stonewall 50). With ‘Meltdown’ introducing – as Shears puts it – more of that “Sinister Dystopian Dance Pop” to come, Jake is also busy with further largely-top-secret projects; he is, however, working with Elton John and British playwright James Graham on a musical about Tammy Faye Bakker, the TV evangelist who was known for her unusual warmth towards the LGBT community.
