On Anzu Words:
Without Love Vol. 1’s concept is built around various degrees of sampling mixed with live instrumentation, and “(When I Was) Loving You” was our first experiment with microsampling. Building a track out of a bunch of really short, unrecognizable samples and making something brand new out of them was a new challenge for us that helped us evolve our sound.
Our music is heavily inspired by French house music and incorporates elements of disco, electro, and synth-pop, so getting to work with Sam John was a perfect fit. Based out of London, England at Precise Mastering, he’s worked with the likes of Justice, Chemical Brothers, Robyn, and Boys Noize. Sam mastered Without Love Vol. 1 while we produced, recorded, and mixed the tracks ourselves. The album artwork was designed by Tallulah Fontaine, who’s also worked with fellow Edmontonians Purity Ring.
