Jade Bird, the fascinatingly exciting new British talent, has announced a brand new single today – ‘Lottery’. This comes in the wake of Jade’s confirmation for this year’s prestigious BBC Music Sound of 2018 poll, and ahead of her headline show in London at Village Underground in March.
Arriving like a breath of fresh air in the summer of 2017, Jade Bird caught us off guard. Her magical debut EP ‘Something American’ – released on Glassnote – instantly captured the hearts of many with her wonderful songwriting talent and brilliant story-telling ability, all sung with a truly unique voice of a generation. Since then, Jade’s been taking her music to the masses with a string of momentous moments; supporting Stevie Nicks in Hyde Park, winning the Anchor Award at Reeperbahn Festival, performing an intimate piano session on Radio 1 for Huw Stephens, making her debut TV performance on Late Night With Stephen Colbert, live support slots for London Grammar and Rag ‘n’ Bone Man’ and her own, quickly-sold-out headline show at London’s Omeara.”
New single ‘Lottery’ is the first new music to come from Jade since the ‘Something American’ EP, and it’s her boldest track to date. Picking up perfectly from ‘Cathedral – The Radio 1 BBC Introducing track of the week – Jade once again showcases her ability to seemingly capture a whole life within a brief 3 minutes – this time telling the story of finding and losing love, but all through the fascinating prismic worldview of a 20 year old with the world very much at her feet.
On the new single, Jade says – “Lottery is a look into a new colourful vibrant phase of my songwriting. It’s full of energy and happiness but actually quite the heartbreak song in the end. The verses are very personal to me “number four Ferdinand Street” being my favourite blues bar me and said ex used to perform in. I guess its a case of ‘do you still believe in me even though we’re apart?”
