Nicole Willis, best known for her 2007 album with The Soul Investigators, returns with a disco/funk EP; “Big Fantasy (For Me) / Tear It Down”. Nicole has turned her hand to production and composing alongside longtime collaborator Jimi Tenor and renowned electric bassist Jonathan Maron. The EP is being released on her own Persephone Records imprint and is the result of three very dynamic musical minds coming together to collaborate.
Jimi Tenor has spent the last two decades creating eclectic music rooted within electronic and afro-jazz styles, with releases on Warp, Strut, Philophon and his own Sahko Recordings label. He’s collaborated with the likes of Tony Allen, Kabu Kabu and Jori Hullkkonen.
Jonathan Maron is known for his unique voice and virtuosity, and has been featured numerous times in Bass Player Magazine. He’s a versatile player who even played the baseline on Maxwell’s classic “Ascension (Don’t Ever Wonder)”. His list of collaborators includes Meshell Ndegeocello, Tupac Shakur and Norah Jones. Maron and Willis go way back to their Brooklyn-based group Repercussions, who worked with Curtis Mayfield.
