Today, Tracey – the elusive collective fast becoming one of the most mythologised groups to emerge from London’s underground – are unveiling their self-titled debut EP. The four tracks announce the scale of Tracey’s ambition: underground electronics in a head-on collision with hip-hop; mind-altering ambience meets warped reimaginings of contemporary RnB. After supporting Sam Akpro and an upcoming show at Ghetec where they will be performing with Mura Masa, Tracey will be hosting an EP release party on 22nd May at Ormside Projects, a venue at the heart of London’s electronic counterculture. This EP marks a true arrival.
Their firebrand single ‘Sex Life’ – a murky, dubstep-indebted floorfiller which calls on a verse from East London MC Riko Dan – took the radio by storm with spins from [INSERT]. ‘Sweet’ takes soulful RnB rewires it to a distorted, electronic extreme – somehow both euphoric and unsettling – while ‘When I choose to be here with you’ is Tracey’s instinct for atmosphere in excelsis. As much as Tracey can disrupt, there is also a tenderness here, too. ‘Take Care’ bears a guitar-driven vulnerability which builds into full-blown catharsis – a band who might be born in the underground, but have boundless ambition.
Tracey is a London-based band formed in 2024, centered around two core members and joined by a rotating cast of musicians for their live performances. Their music is a blend of the fresh and the familiar, drawing from underground electronic pioneers, contemporary R&B, and an eclectic range of influences—Kylie Minogue to Skream, Crystal Castles to Colourbox, and beyond.
