Best of 2025 – Artist Questionnaire by BRUNETTO
– What’s one thing you learned about yourself as an artist this year?
I’ve discovered that you don’t need a whole recording studio, with more than half a dozen synths or machines running, to work and create an interesting concept. Knowing how to use—and above all, deeply understanding—a few tools and then—this is vital—not forcing anything you compose, and letting it rest for a reasonable amount of time before returning with a fresh ear, is fundamental. Producing should be seen as a fun challenge, although it’s essential to know how to organize your time and resources. I continue to find that taking the time to organize your own beat kits and adding a new sound bank helps you let go; this year it was a new synthesizer that has inspired me a lot with its layers and atmospheres.
-How has your creative process evolved over the past year?
On one hand, and musically speaking, it’s been the culmination of five years of mulling over ideas. On the other hand, it’s been another exercise in optimizing time and performance, because alongside producing music and DJing when the occasion calls for it, I’m also the press and communications manager for major agencies like Miracle MGMT and Freelastica. I’m a multitasker who also develops websites, does design, manages social media, and so on. And to top it all off, I’m a cultural writer contributing for a few magazines in Spain.
-Who or what inspired your work the most in 2025?
I’m obsessed with finding and achieving balance. In everything I do. As for the inspiration for, for example, my new mini-album ‘OOPARTS’ on Beautiful Accident, it’s been my enormous passion for mystery and science fiction. From a very young age, I’ve been hooked on these topics through magazines, movies, comics, and so on. I’m also very inspired by cinematic sounds and revolutionizing beats. The interplay between digital and analog tools is also deeply inspiring. Everything, used correctly, enriches and develops good ideas.
-What’s something you accomplished this year that the “you from last year” wouldn’t believe?
Well, I’m especially happy to have finished this new mini-album and be very satisfied with it—I have to say—while also starting new projects that I hope will see the light of day next year. My wish is that this reactivation is now unstoppable. Then I saw how, after a very intense 2024 in terms of clients and PR work, in the second half of 2025, a lot of work that had been accepted and was ready to go fell through. A blow, especially financially, but emotionally I’ve always been able to recover. A good rest when needed and being surrounded by good people helps tremendously.
-Is there something you hoped to accomplish in 2025 but didn’t, and are now aiming for in 2026?
Absolutely. For me, that rest I mentioned is always essential… the kind you get when your mind and body are in sync. I’d like to make progress in this area by 2026. I want to take more time, if possible, to exercise, the more away from the city the better. I love nature; the mountains are a must. On the work front, I hope agencies, artists, and labels don’t change their minds at the last minute—it’s incredibly frustrating—and that quality, interesting opportunities arise. Not just anything deserves your time. I love challenges, working hard but fluidly, and achieving cool things. But I absolutely hate wasting time on things that don’t deserve it.
– What’s one goal -big or small- you’re setting for yourself as an artist in 2026?
Well, there’s one very specific one that I don’t think I’ve mentioned yet: getting back to DJing, and especially using only vinyl records. It’s the format I love, even though it’s a pain to transport… we all know that, those of us who have been working with it for years, decades… That’s why I might need to improve my physical fitness 🙂 The truth is, I’ve been DJing non-stop since the early 90s, and I’ve spent many days without seeing the sunlight (which I now really appreciate). Traveling isn’t good for me either. It’s a real mess for my body. So I’ll choose—if possible, of course—where and when. I also want to continue exploring and reinventing the downtempo concept. I’m eager to find talented vocalists to join me on this journey—it won’t be easy!
– What are you most excited to explore creatively in 2026?
I want to take another step in the art of sampling, as well as start a new drum kit that I can then use to create new beats… I also want to delve deeper into atmospheric melody within a cinematic environment.
– Is there a new medium, project, or direction you’re planning to dive into next year?
There’s a path I explored at the beginning of the century, and I really enjoyed it. It involves creating original music for documentaries, TV series, art installations, and contemporary dance companies. I want to revisit that, especially with an eye toward publishing and submitting my music to online platforms like Netflix, HBO, and so on.
Your Message for Fans & Music Lovers
I want to tell you that music is healing. Although I’m sure you already know that. And I want to remind you that Rome wasn’t built in a day, so be patient with everything that’s worthwhile. Learn and strive to move forward with respect and zero deceitfulness. What good is lying? I am filled with gratitude towards all the people who value me and believe in me, in any of the fields I work in… and also to those who support my more creative side. To all of them, my best wishes for 2026 and beyond!

About Brunetto (BIO):
Brunetto is a musician, DJ, storyteller and music journalist from Seville, now based in Barcelona. His career is built on restless curiosity, moving through decades, raised on a diet of vinyl, keyboards, groove boxes and several music genres. From 80s funk-rap and trip-hop to UK big beat, hardhop, IDM, techno, jungle and future bass, his is eclectic, a shape-shifting sound that balances electronic freedom with pulse and presence.
His work spans film scores, documentaries, commercials, interactive projects, and remixes for artists such as The Suicide of Western Culture, Pulshar, Heitt, AFFKT, Omega dB, Killin’s Ürcos, Ioan Gamboa, Daniel Van Lion or Anika Sade. Before all that, he fronted Bockors, a late-90s band that opened for The Prodigy, Lunatic Calm and The Chemical Brothers.
A shape-shifter between dancefloor power and experimental detail, Brunetto stands among influences like Boards of Canada, UNKLE, Dabrye, Yppah, Orbital, Badalamenti and Leftfield —an old dog still discovering new tricks, new languages!
