Chord Records returns with its third release this January, Jay Shepheard’s ‘Quiet Life’ EP, backed with Matthew Burton and Dudley Strangeways remixes.
Berlin-based English producer Jay Shepheard has been releasing his breed of melodic, groove-infused house music for the past decade via labels such as Compost, Pets Recordings and of course his own Retrofit imprint. Here we Shepheard return with two fresh cuts for the fledgling Chord Records, following material from Ultrastretch artist Matthew Burton and Dudley Strangeways who both return on remix duties here, and founder Luke Black.
Title-track ‘The Quiet Life’ takes the lead and sees Jay employ crunchy, shuffled rhythms and resonant synth blips alongside bubbling delayed synth flutters, elongated sub bass tones and dubbed out chord sequences. Dudley Strangeways, strips things back next with a microhouse feel fuelled by minute percussive clicks and modulating synth tones whilst oscillating subs and wandering chops of the originals chords ebb and flow throughout.
The second original from Shepheard, ‘The Dozers Are Coming’, kicks off the B-Side, this time round laying focus on ethereal pads, loose organic rhythms and skippy hats before Matthew Burton rounds out the package with his take on ‘The Dozers Are Coming’, featuring off-kilter drums and airy dubbed out atmospherics.
Jay Shepheard’s ‘The Quiet Life’ EP is out on Chord Records 19th January 2018.
