Ballroom Records continues to define the sound of Berlin’s underground with an EP from Ale F & Crazy Sonic that features four tracks of high impact minimal techno.
Crazy Sonic aka Rudolf Wrany has a history in music that dates back to the nineties in Vienna, when he organised parties and played with the legendary Kruder & Dorfmeister. He then went on to set up his own and now world famous ‘Tuesday Electronicclub CRAZY’ as well as play at events like Creamfields and in cities like Sao Paolo in the ensuing years. He now runs the FLEXSchallplatten label, has released on DJ Hell’s Gigolo label and Tronic, with a number of underground Beatport hits to his name in that time.
Here he works with Ale F, a Brazilian DJ and Producer born in São Paulo and a key player in his local scene, as well as having made an impact with music on labels such as Time Has Changed, all of which has had high profile support from the likes of Richie Hawtin, Agoria and Marco Carola. Together this pair cook up some brilliantly dark and dramatic techno.
Proving that from the off is ‘Don’t Turn Right,’ a rollercoaster ride of gurgling bass and incendiary techno hi hats that build to an intense crescendo. While they dissipate, light emitting synths lift your spirts and chattery snares help drive you on again. The excellent ‘The Rant’ is a loopy, weightless techno track with celestial chord sequences lighting up the night sky and bringing a sense of subtle euphoria to the dance floor.
Switching up the mood once more, ‘Terminal A’ is a turbulent bit of techno wrapped up in wiry and fidgeting synths. It’s intense and filled with late night energy that is perfect to make a real statement in the club. Finally, ‘Friendly Fire’ rolls deep on urgent kicks, with cosmic pads bringing a futuristic sense of soul as warm hits add to the sense of forward motion.
These are well crafted bits of techno dynamite once again from this always on point label.
