Studio Bahöö is named after the Viennese slang word “Bahöö,” which means noise, uproar, or chaos, and is run by a collective from Vienna that brings innovative pop influences to electronic music. Here, they continue to serve up a seven-part EP series, full of raw sketches and fully formed weapons alike.
This second vinyl outing comes from local artist Rigby On The Run, a project built under the Studio Bahöö banner that shuns persona & provenance, and has no face. It’s about whatever happens when a track finally clicks at 3 am and draws on foundational UK styles from garage and breaks to sound system culture. Infectious rhythms come with hefty low ends and a lived-in aesthetic that brings real heart and soul.
The deft ‘Blossom Archives’ opens with dusty breakbeats and shimmering vocal hooks that work on heart and heel, ‘Shakul’ is a meticulous mix of jungle motifs, plunging bass and glistening melody with a hint of nostalgia and ‘Soft Lightning’ rides on potent drums while deep bass and soaring vocals vie for attention next to throwback pianos. Pixelated and sugary melodies on ‘Orchards’ cascade down the face of raw percussion and into a cavernous low-end while ‘Rug Rally‘ ups the ante with pitched up r&b vocals and speedy, lo-fi and dry drum breaks before ‘Greyhound’ brings a sunny jumble of dreamy pads and loose breaks, angelic vocal coos and hazy memories. ‘River Lea’ is a final scuffed-up but impactful jam with thudding kicks and glistering chords that make for a loved-up rave.
Rigby on the Run‘s ‘Rug Rally‘ is available on vinyl and digital via Studio Bahöö on June 25, 2025, with preceding singles ‘Shakul’ on May 2, ‘Soft Lightning’ on May 23, and ‘River Lea’ on June 13.
