Following a meteoric rise through the UK electronic scene, South London producer ATRIP announces his debut album PLASTERBOY, his most ambitious and emotionally open project to date, arriving December 4th via the label head’s very own TANZPARTEI imprint. It launches today with the intimate new single ‘pull u right thru’.
Built around a restless curiosity and an instinct to follow wherever an idea takes him, ATRIP’s music has always been defined by movement. With PLASTERBOY, that instinct remains, but the focus shifts. Moving beyond the club-focused energy that first established his reputation, ATRIP opens up a much more expansive and personal musical world. Across the album, electronic production sits alongside UK rap, shoegaze, trip-hop, leftfield pop and more, with a diverse cast of collaborators contributing to a record that feels as emotionally varied as it does sonically.
At the centre of the album is a story of having to start again. Following the theft of his laptop and hard drives after a show in Bristol last year, ATRIP lost years of music, ideas and unfinished work in an instant. The impact went far beyond the material loss, having built his career on instinct and spontaneity, he suddenly found himself questioning every creative decision, struggling to trust the intuition that had previously been his greatest strength. What followed became the unexpected foundation for PLASTERBOY. Instead of trying to recreate the music he had lost, ATRIP began to reconsider his entire relationship with making it. The album became a way of moving through grief, self-doubt and frustration, while gradually rediscovering the freedom and curiosity that had drawn him to music in the first place.
“After losing all my life’s work in a car theft last year, I found myself having to rebuild not just my music, but my relationship with making it. This album grew out of that process — moving through grief, self-doubt and the pressure to return to who I was, and eventually allowing myself to make something quieter, stranger and more honest. It’s about loss, healing and forgiveness, but ultimately it’s about finding a way forward without needing to become the person I was before.”
That process also changed the way ATRIP approached collaboration. Where his earlier work was often driven by a solitary, instinctive approach to production, PLASTERBOY became a deeply communal record. Working alongside close friends and artists including FLOHIO, Bawo, Enola, Jessica Winter, Izza Gara, Leela Rose, Oscar Farrell and songwriter Jo Hill, ATRIP found that other voices could help unlock emotions and ideas that he struggled to articulate alone.
“The people you hear throughout these records are not just collaborators, but my friends, and in many ways they became vessels for emotions I struggled to communicate on my own. Their voices, ideas and interpretations helped me give shape to feelings that were often difficult to articulate. I’m eternally grateful to them.”
Today’s single ‘pull u right through’ captures this spirit of collaboration and emotional openness. Written with close friend Jo Hill in her kitchen, the track is a tender, radiant expression of friendship, written from the perspective of someone trying to communicate support, love and affirmation to a friend going through a difficult time.
“This one feels particularly close to my heart, as I wrote this in the midst of finding my feet and my rhythm again after having my laptop & album stolen after a show in Bristol last year. Writing the lyrics with a very close friend – Jo Hill – in her kitchen, was a therapeutic exercise for me at that time, as we wanted to capture the perspective of a friend to a grieving person, who is desperately trying to communicate support, love and affirmation.”
PLASTERBOY is an album that represents a significant evolution for an artist who has always resisted standing still. It retains the rhythmic instinct and restless energy that have become synonymous with ATRIP, but places them within a much wider emotional and sonic landscape. It’s a record that can exist in the club, but was never made exclusively for it – an album built to be lived with and interpreted on its own terms.
