Lyra Pramuk unveils ‘Hymnal (Resung)’, featuring reworks of select album tracks by Djrum, Verraco, Laurel Halo in collaboration with John Tejada, and more.

Berlin-based American multidisciplinary artist Lyra Pramuk announces ‘Hymnal (Resung)’, a euphoric sequel to her widely revered album ‘Hymnal’, featuring reworks of select album tracks by Djrum, Verraco, Laurel Halo in collaboration with John Tejada, Dumama, Tarta Relena, and Pramuk herself.

Preserving the abundant beauty, awe-inspiring energy, and polyphonic resonances of Pramuk’s cosmo-biological opus, these six reworks transform the fervent, post-minimalist grandeur of the originals into devotional dance music and exhilarating variations. Crossing styles and continents, the sacred, collectivist echoes of ‘Hymnal’ are recast in the light of the dancefloor, and reimagined in pioneering new forms.
On the new lead single for the release, acclaimed British DJ and producer Djrum transforms ‘Ending’ into sublime, fractal soundsystem music that unpredictably ascends then slowly and beautifully dissipates, leaving a mesmerizing trail in its wake. Colombian TraTraTrax lynchpin Verraco revamps the latent dance music impulses of ‘Oracle’, constructing an ecstatic, contorted tour de force that, for him, constitutes an affectionate, dynamic reshape: “When it comes to tracks as special as this one, I feel that making a remix doesn’t make sense, it would ruin the original spirit of the track and Lyra’s powerful, essential, and celestial voice. I decided to use my weightless approach, which I always hope will be useful both for the dancefloor and for listening at home, always holding the backbone of the track and above all that epic, dramatic, nostalgic vibe that I love so much about Lyra’s music.”

Elsewhere, Laurel Halo and John Tejada turn ‘Meridian’ into steely, irrepressible techno laced with vocal mutations, adapting one of the album’s many highlights into a compulsive dancefloor anthem. Catalan folk electronic duo Tarta Relena remake ‘Unchosen’ as a baroque drama of manifold voices and lush strings, while Pramuk overhauls her own track ‘Reality’, forming a vaporous multiplicity of choral fragmentation and streaming signals. Pramuk’s rework is named ‘Dhikr al-Qayyum,’ an Islamic term of remembrance for Allah, the ‘Self-Subsisting One’. South African futurist folk vocalist and composer Dumama completes the cast, uniquely intensifying the haunting abstraction of ‘Swallow’ with euphonic echoes and dubwise distortions.
Sustaining the mesmeric, enduring impact of ‘Hymnal’, these reworks uncover new avenues of momentum and experimentation that extend and reaffirm the profound depth of the album. For Pramuk, ‘Hymnal’ is not merely remixed here, but aesthetically expanded with new voices. As the title of the EP says, ‘Hymnal’ is instead resung.
