DJ Spen, one of the leading architects of Gospel House Music, is set to release his new full‑length artist album, ‘The Praise Party’, on Quantize Recordings. The album arrives as the latest milestone in a four‑decade career that has seen Spen evolve from his early days with The Numarx and the Basement Boys into one of the most influential figures in soulful and gospel‑inspired house music. As a globally respected DJ, producer, remixer and co‑founder of Quantize Recordings, he has shaped the genre through projects like Jasper Street Company, Code Red Recordings and The MuthaFunkaz, while building a catalogue of more than 700 releases and working with artists including Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Toni Braxton and Ann Nesby.
‘The Praise Party’ was born from Spen’s weekly Sunday livestream, launched during the pandemic after his wife Kelly encouraged him to “go live and bring hope to people”. What began as a simple broadcast grew into a worldwide online community united by music, faith and Spen’s uplifting gospel house edits. Six years on, that community still gathers, and the new album carries their spirit forward.
The album project features fifteen tracks built around joyful group vocals, standout solo performances and the energetic Gospel grooves that define Spen’s sound. It brings together a strong lineup of vocalists including Barbara Tucker, Dawn Tallman, Angelica de No, Inaya Day, Richard Burton, Tasha LaRae, Dr. David Anderson, Robin S, Randy Roberts, Vonita White, Marylin and Cleveland P. Jones. Spen also collaborates with producers Kelly G, David Harness, Jeff Straw, Thommy Davis, Kasper Burnstein and Gary Hudgins. The writing team includes Kelly Spencer, who penned the first single, ‘When I Needed You Most’, alongside other album contributors, Eric Roberson, Richard Smallwood, Kelly G, Walter Hawkins, to name a few. ‘The Praise Party’ album stands as a celebration of community, legacy and the uplifting spirit at the heart of Spen’s musical output on Quantize Recordings, and in short, it sounds amazing!
