Watch : CID RIM and Denai Moore soundtrack a freestyle dance in the city for ‘Control’

CID RIM – Control feat. Denai Moore
After releasing his debut album ‘Material’ to critical acclaim last year, CID RIM aka Clemens Bacher returns with the stunning visuals for new single ‘Control’ featuring Denai Moore, out now on LuckyMe.

Hot off the heels of co-producing Petite Noir’s mini-album La Maison Noir / The Black House and following on from his 2017 acclaimed album Material in 2017, both projects crowned a BBC 6Music ‘Album Of The Day’ along with A-playlisting and a number of album of the year awards. This time Clemens is working with Denai Moore on an electronic soul record that draws from a thousand different inspirations.

There’s something immediately recognisable in the production of CID RIM. This self-made jazz drum wizard from Vienna has an ear for irregular chords and percussion that’s hard earned with years of dogged dedication to instruments. Yet his music is fresh with the energy of new software. Featuring heavily treated synths and processed vocals amongst CID RIM’s signature live drum tone, ‘Control’ is the perfect splicing of the digital and real world. Punchy, soulful and dynamic, the track exemplifies a side of CID RIM that hasn’t ever been as prominent, his expert songwriting; crafting a track that’s infectious and forward thinking in equal measure.

The track’s freeform visuals expand this sonic template even further. Directed by Jess Lowe and set in New York, the video depicts a freestyle dancer overtaken by the trance of the music, taking on the sights and sounds of the city along the way. As hypnotic as ‘Control”s sound may suggest, the visuals provide a interpretive insight into life within the city and moving at a steady pace through the hustle of modern life within it.

On the video, the director Jess Lowe said: “New York is an abusive relationship. I wanted to write it a love letter but then we had a bad day so I made this instead.”

On the track’s visuals, CID RIM said: “I always felt I had a strong connection to dancers, especially in the rather free improv world, so I’m very happy with having a dancer in one of my music videos for the second time now, especially as it’s again an improvised performance without choreography. A performance where the main goal is not to dance to but BE the music and to BE the energy, which is very similar to what I try to achieve on the stage at my concerts. I can relate.

Constantly ahead of the curve musically and creatively, CID RIM has expanded on the sound that he has been developing throughout his career, and on ‘Control’, has created the most realised version of that vision yet. With more material on the horizon going into 2019, CID RIM is bringing a completely fresh perspective to electronic music – lock in now.
