Lara Hamilton is an Australian ski mountaineer and trail runner currently training for the Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina 2026, where ski mountaineering will make its historic Olympic debut. Known for its demanding combination of endurance, speed, and alpine technique, the sport’s inclusion in the Winter Games marks a major milestone – one that Lara is uniquely poised to embrace.
Based in Colorado, she brings a distinct perspective to the sport, blending high-performance athletics with a background in opera and DJing. A classically trained vocalist with a master’s degree in opera performance, Lara infuses her athletic journey with creativity and rhythm, often performing at ski resorts and drawing inspiration from the mountains for her music.
“My all-time favorite album is from 1992 – it’s called ‘Deep Forest.’ My parents grew up listening to it, so it has a special place in my heart. Lately, I’ve been working on creating a set with a foresty, techno vibe blended with house music to create a fully immersive experience. I’m also exploring the fusion of opera and tech house – figuring out how to bring those worlds together,” says Lara Hamilton.
Her current project, a track titled “Save Skimo,” reflects her deep connection to both the sport and its environment. As she prepares for the Games, Lara sees a powerful harmony between sports and music – both demanding discipline, emotion, and presence—making her path to Milano Cortina not just a physical pursuit, but a profoundly artistic one as well.
Lara Hamilton (DJ Solara) on the mix:
This project was really enjoyable, as someone who is lucky enough to have lived in and travelled to many countries, I could experiment with popular tracks from around the world. I really like to work with House Tech music, but for this project it was fun to explore the Deep House genre whilst still bringing in elements of my favourite style to make it ‘me’. This mix has a fair amount of variety, with peaks and troughs, and some of my own beats mixed in. I recorded it live on the road, with my travel deck, as I am a professional trail runner and ski mountaineer. I think it brings in authenticity, as I recorded it live from my hotel room in the alps. What an amazing experience!
