Gitkin to release “Rain Over Royal” from new album “Where the South Winds Wail”

“Rain Over Royal” carries an effortless New Orleans cool, relaxed but charged with a sense of intrigue. Think overcoat collar flipped, stepping into the misty midnight. The melody leans into Middle Eastern tonality, with a spy-thriller twang guitar line cutting clean through the electric haze. Clocking in under three minutes, the song makes its statement quickly and cleanly, closing with a vintage organ solo that feels classic, confident, and unforced.

The story of Gitkin’s new album begins on the wind in New Orleans, where half-heard melodies drifted in like ghosts. Chasing those fragments became ‘Where the South Winds Wail’ — less a collection of songs than a séance with an unknown past. Surf twang, blues exotica, and psychedelic cumbia intertwine, all steeped in the city’s humid mysticism. Cinematic, soulful, and raw, it feels like a prayer echoing after midnight. For the first time, Gitkin’s voice steps forward to guide the ritual.
