Machinedrum returns with his first independently released Mini-LP. After recently teasing new music via his Bandcamp, Travis Stewart officially announces ‘BL00MS’ – his first purely instrumental Machinedrum release in years, and a deliberate pivot. After years of collaborating with vocalists such as Freddie Gibbs, A$AP Ferg, and Tinashe, Stewart strips this project back to the dancefloor, delivering six tracks that span dubstep, UK garage, jungle, and melodic house across a 136-160 BPM range. Sonic reference points include Underworld, Mala, Four Tet, and Floating Points, with a lineage tracing back to the Room(s) and Vapor City era, refined and updated.
The Mini-LP follows 3FOR82, Stewart’s deeply personal album exploring self-reflection and inner-child healing. Where that record processed emotions through vocal collaborations, BL00MS channels that clarity into pure instrumental energy. The title refers to a core compositional and creative technique: chords and ideas function as compressed seeds. Sonically, these chords are broken into arpeggios that get distributed across multiple instruments through a process called hocketing, where each instrument plays one note and waits for its turn. Creatively, these seeds of ideas bloom into larger forms once properly cared for and cultivated. The results are dense, shifting melodic textures that embed themselves inside intricate drum patterns that feel both composed and alive.
Alongside the release, BL00MS opens up into a playful digital world of interactive experiments and easter eggs. Fans can plant ‘seeds’ in a collaborative digital garden that grows into procedurally generated ASCII flowers with unique audio variants from the Mini-LP, while more technically curious users can dive into layered puzzles and coded clues that hint at upcoming releases. The project also extends into the physical realm with limited-edition floppy disk–style USBs, hand-prepared and loaded with exclusive content for those looking to go deeper.
BL00MS marks the relaunch of IAMSIAM, Stewart’s independent label. After a 13-year partnership with Ninja Tune, Stewart is returning to independent releasing, bringing full creative and commercial control back under one roof.
Machinedrum will be taking the project on the road with the BL0000MS Tour, a series of 3+ hour DJ sets with custom visuals created by Stewart himself, hitting a host of cities across the US.
