Maceo Plex finally drops his long-teased remix of Empire of the Sun’s classic single ‘DNA’ ahead of a new package of reworks.
Ellum Audio and Lone Romantic label head Maceo Plex has long defined the new-school sound of house and techno. He brings a futuristic, cinematic take that blends bass, breaks, and electro, and has delivered landmark EPs and LPs, playing across the globe at the world’s best clubs and festivals for three decades. Following a busy summer including standout sets in Ibiza, a debut on the cult Rekids label and his ‘The Plan’ EP on Ellum Audio, he once again shows his restless creative spirit on this remix. It has already been road-tested in live sets and picked up plenty of hype with fans across the world, and revisits a tune from Aussie duo Empire of the Sun shortly after their breakout and ARIA award-winning Walking on A Dream era.
The fantastic ‘DNA (Maceo Plex Remix)’ is a broody gem with heavy, rolling drums and serious bass weight. Subtle vocal fragments are teased in the mix as synths build towards a grand release of emotion. Then the original vocals arrive and drift above the groove, creating pure dance-floor escape before pulling back to the hypnotic, marching groove that carries dancers home. It’s a classy remix that reframes the original’s cosmic uplift into a more heads-down world of deep techno.
