Oddball Creatives is the new production partnership between musical heavyweights – singer, songwriter, Joseph Malik and co-producer, musician Daniel Walls (formerly Digital Liquid). Their first original single release, ‘Wondering & Wishing Like Me’ is forthcoming on Echo Labs. The duo have teamed up with their regular collaborators Kameela Waheed on vocals and award-winning Jazz musician, Colin Steele on trumpet and Darren Morris and Hammond and Wurlitzer, along with backing vocals from ENIA. The first Oddball Creatives project was the ‘Only Fans’ single, remixed by X-Press followed by ‘Adult Contemporary’, before the duo shifted focus to producing Kameelah Waheed on singles such as ‘My Whole World’ and ‘Be A Lion’. Then Joseph Malik was diagnosed with stage 4 lung disease and had lost his vocal cords and he found an old vocal take that was recorded at the Young Fathers studio. Joseph brought it to Daniel, sparking months of work across studios in Edinburgh, Hastings, Berlin and Philadelphia with an all star cast of musicians. The result is ‘Wondering & Wishing Like Me’ – a heartfelt feast of soulful goodness, where top drawer musicianship, compelling songwriting where Joseph and Kameela fit together like peas in a pod combining soulful melodies and sublime spoken words, in the spirit of the Native Tongues soul hip hop movement.
‘Wondering & Wishing Like Me’ will be released on vinyl on September 4th 2026 on Echo Labs.
