It’s a Feeling from ‘Distance’EP by Yeti Mind Tricks, out 04 June on Motech Records
The latest release on Motech Records brings another debutant in the shape of Kristoffer Barton, artistically known as Yeti Mind Tricks with this superb three track EP titled ‘Distance’ [MT 144].
Glasgow native Yeti Mind Tricks, formerly Breezy, doesn’t believe in pigeonholing himself as an artist. The founder of BASSment, a long running Glasgow promotion which has hosted in some of the city’s best clubs such as Sub Club, La Cheetah and Room2, has featured artists like Randomer, Butch, Heidi, James Zabiela and more. Having started producing electronic music at the start of lockdown, he has already signed with some fantastic and established labels including Kuukou, Egothermia, Jackie Knows Karate, and here on Motech.
Yeti Mind Tricks believes in variety, which has translated into his productions. The title track launches the EP with a minimal loop inspired by Barton’s first visits to Saturday nights at Sub Club. While track two, ‘It’s a Feeling’ heads in a more uplifting vibe, paying homage to the soulful element of early Detroit house and techno to set a perfect vision for being back on the dance floor.
‘Wanna Be’ follows, nicely blending a filtered synth, setting the groove with vocal trills, and subtle breakbeat-like drum fills. The EP closes with the brilliant tech track ‘Misfit’, with a groove filled analogue baseline that’s as funky as it is catchy. In the artist’s own words:
“One of the big inspirations behind this track was Kerri Chandlers ‘Bar-a-Thyme’. The ever-evolving melody through the track was something I always loved, so I wanted to put my own spin on it.”
A great debut, with four tracks that remind you how much we all need to get back to clubland, ‘Distance EP’ from Yeti Mind Tricks is available on Motech Records via all digital and streaming platforms from June 4th.
