Movin Deeper is taken from Black Eyes’ “Aquatic Vibe: Volume.1” EP, out 17th of May on EPMmusic
Following a recent DJ set for HÖR (Berlin) and remix for Abacus, Black Eyes makes his debut release for EPM, with the deft, Deep House stylings of “Aquatic Vibe: Volume.1”.
Hailing originally from Manchester, in the industrial north of England, Black Eyes has effortlessly relocated to the similarly gritty streets of Berlin, where his raw, trademark sound blends perfectly with the sodium lit concrete environment.
Whilst excelling as a producer of self-described “Hydro-Trip” which is deep and trippy House, Black Eyes is at heart primarily a DJ, and always will be. His sound is heavily influenced by Detroit producers Mike Huckaby, Walt J, Omar S and Norm Talley as well European artists like MCDE with his unique mixing style. These influences shine through both in his sets and in the releases from his own label, Lost Control 2097, most notably heard over a seven-year residency with the infamous NTS radio, more recently Balamii radio and at the now legendary parties he ran at The White Hotel in Manchester.
Since moving to Berlin in 2022, he has released “Planet People – Terra Firma” with Reedale Rise which was picked as one of the records of the year for 2023 by Phonica in London. His solo EP “Hydro-Trip vol 1” came out last August on Lost Control 2097 with a remix from Rolando of Los Hermanos / Underground Resistance fame.
2024 brings a whole new selection of releases with his trademark Hydro-Trip sound including this four track EP of glorious Detroit Beatdown deepness. The EP dives straight into Matthew’s sub-aquatic world with the bumping “Jazzin Deeper” before “Steppin Deeper” takes us down another hundred fathoms with its vocally enhanced, Detroit-influenced groove. “Movin Deeper” brings in a sumptuous rolling bassline to keep us in the Mariana Trench before “Groovin Deeper” closes out with emotive jazzy chords and delicate strings to bring us back to the surface.
