Tectonic recordings’ 20th anniversary continues, with the return of OG grime don Trim, whose ‘No Caller ID’ EP drops April 18th.

Produced by Pinch, this juggernaut of a record finds both artists pumped-up, stronger than ever, and undefeatable. Part menacing bravado and part introspection, Trim’s trademark wordplay is on peak form, whilst Pinch pummels with cyborg hip hop, cataclysmic bass, asymmetrical beats and nocturnal synths.

Mark Pritchard recommended I link-up with Pinch, so I went down to Bristol”, recalls Trim. “Getting out of the London bubble got rid of my one-track-mind. It gave me a new way of thinking. Somerset has been a big influence!

Each track represents a different emotion I’ve gone through. Lyrically it’s based on feeling, and being real with myself. I’ve matured, and Rob helped me with that. A lot of his music is pretty mad and he empowered me to take that route, to push the envelope, and be comfortable with myself as a true artist. He was throwing curveballs at me, and I thought, ‘this isn’t just 140, I can’t swag this’, so I bought my A-game. Bringing our years of experience, right from the beginning of grime and dubstep, we adapted and got better together, finding our chi. It developed us both.

Rob’s always been a key figure, and as a DJ he has a powerful presence. I was starstruck at first to be honest, but since then we’ve built a deep friendship. This EP represents our brotherhood.”

I have so much respect for Trim; he’s one of the most devastating wordsmiths out there! His lyrics have layers and layers of meaning that often take a lot to fully decipher”, adds Pinch. “The whole creative process has really been driven by a desire to catch a vibe and create a resonance between the music and vocals, relative to our histories in dubstep and grime respectively. I feel something that we have had in common throughout that time is being on the leftfield/outside edge of those scenes, following our passion for the sound and culture over building a career path with it. This EP sums us up, where our sonics collide, and become a resonating vibe!”
