Last week, the mysterious Qendresa (pronounced: Chen-Dre-Sa) emerged from the underground as Drake’s HABIBTI release revealed four of their collaborations made the cut. Featured on “Slap the City (HABIBTI)” with additional vocal contributions on “Gen 5”, “Fortworth ft PARTYNEXTDOOR” and “Stuck” (MAID OF HONOUR), the Northwest Londoner has been quietly, steadily building a name for herself: a singer, songwriter, producer, and DJ whose work has earned co-signs from tastemakers like Lil Yachty and Daniel Kaluuya, alongside early support from Drake. It’s the kind of momentum that feels underground until it suddenly isn’t. Today, after years honing her craft and staying true to her unique sound and vision, Qendresa has arrived at a precipice of career expansion.
Speaking on their work together, Qendresa shares:
“OVO radio and Sound42 have been so supportive of my music so it was amazing to hear from Drake himself a few months ago- I’ve followed his journey and admired his artistry for so long, so many summers soundtracked to Drake, so when he reached out to collaborate it was a really special moment and a personal milestone. Needless to say he is a generational artist and brilliant a&r so I’m very grateful to be a part of it all across both Habibti and Maid of Honour. Coincidentally, Slap the City was the very first song we collaborated on, and one of my personal favourites”
This news comes hot on the heels of her first release of the year, “Rain In July / Be The One”. A shimmering and smokey AA-side drenched in groove and vulnerability, “Rain in July” came alongside a video that saw Qendresa return to work with the multidisciplinary artist Sofire who worked on the artwork for her debut EP Midnight Request Line. Inspired by hot summer evenings, London living, GTA, 80s anime and female led comics like Tank Girl, the music video is a homage to everything that created Sofire and her feminine viewpoint, effortlessly carrying the mood of Qendresa’s seductive vocals.
