Fresh from his classy rework of Rae & Christian’s soul classic “Spellbound”, young French producer and remixer Yves Schopin turns his attention to another standout cut from the epic Mark Rae catalogue, “Throne”. Reimagining the original 65 BPM track at a driving 130 BPM, Yves brings a vibrant new energy, weaving rmelancholy steel pan melodies throughout and giving fresh momentum to Spikey Tee’s powerful reflections on the Windrush generation.
The release also features saxophone contributions from celebrated jazz musician Chip Wickham (Gondwana), a longtime collaborator who toured extensively with Rae & Christian. Originally appearing as the closing track on Mark Rae’s debut solo album Rae Road (Grand Central Records, 2002), “Throne” remains a poignant and sharply observed critique of capitalism and the exclusionary systems that leave many on the margins. And more than two decades after its original release, the song’s themes continue to resonate.
‘Throne’ (Yves Schopin Remix) will be released on all platforms on October 30th 2026 on Mark’s Music.
