Premiere: DanSonic – Dreamer

DanSonic – Dreamer, taken from Summer Vibes LP, out July 5 (Beatport Exclusive) on Artificial Acoustical Ambience
Artificial Acoustical Ambience Records ushers in the Summer season with a new mini LP from label boss DanSonic. The Swiss artist rounded out 2018 on a prolific note with a string of well received singles along with remixes for 19Box Recordings and Rikk Earth, the latter of which also came courtesy of AAAR. Now following a quiet start to 2019, DanSonic presents his first project of the year entitled ‘Summer Vibes’.

Long regarded for his borderless approach to production, ‘Summer Vibes’ is a six track collection which once again showcases DanSonic ‘s well rounded studio repertoire. Beginning with the classic house sensibilities of ‘Crusin’ we find the Swiss artist crafting a musical dance floor gem. A collage of vocal fragments and detailed percussion add swing to an already buoyant framework, while the main break serves as a perfect prelude to a piano led finale. The ethos of collection continues on course with the cosmic funk of ‘Waiting’. Compelling vocal edits sit atop funky slabs of bass and chunky rhythms, while astral electronics arrive at timely moments for a uniquely cosmic quality. The collection shifts into deeper territory with the third selection ‘Still on My Mind’. Smooth, hypnotic and refreshingly emotive, it’s punchy beats, wistful melodies and classic vocal styling’s unite in a gorgeous symphony of sound. Tastefully timeless it is yet another reminder of DanSonic’s brilliant use of vocals in a rhythmic context.

The collection’s halfway point is marked by the playful ‘Dreamer’. It’s the warmth and bounce of the groove which becomes instantly compelling here. Perfectly contoured and full of great character, it anchors what is a pulsating, percussive and highly evocative slice of house music. The vocal elements get utilized to perfection, sitting against a backbone of chunky beats before timely chord stabs adds further fuel to the rhythmic fire. The unique interpretation of ‘Dreamer’ is provided by Massivan who makes his label debut following releases on Modest Electronica. Of Italian descent, Ivan Pezzini aka Massivan was born in Switzerland but now calls Formentera, Spain home. With a career that spans over two decades Ivan has earned the support of John Digweed, Sasha, Timo Maas and Steve Lawler, before eventually revamping his sound into a jazzy house hybrid. It’s something which has stuck with him to present day and works amazingly well on ‘Dreamer’. It’s broken beats and redolent rhythms provide the perfect foundation for a collage of soulful vocals and cosmic acid lines. A superb complement to the original and a perfect addition to any summer set.

The fifth and final original finds DanSonic collaborating with Espresso Del Mar for the highly musical, mid-tempo cut ‘La Mañana’. A tantalizing guitar intro sets the stage for exotic drums and soulful trumpet motifs to work their magic. Cross cultural vocals add an indistinct charm, sitting perfectly amidst the musical elements, on course to a drummy final act before melting down to a trumpet solo to close the release out in style.
