‘National Gangsters’ is the latest track to land from Farai, turning their post-punk and rave-tinged attentions to the subject of heroin and its presence throughout London: eponymous vocalist Farai traces its hidden presence all around the city, from the streets to the plush offices of city workers and politicians. The track, driven by raw drum breaks and synth snarls, has an urgency to it: its creation was shaped by the lo-fi home studio where they recorded it. “We had paper thin walls in the studio,” remembers producer TONE. It drove them to finish it in the second take, right before a neighbour complained.
