Fear-E returns with his second album ‘Descent into Ascension (Snapshots of a Mental State)’

Posh End Music boss Fear-E returns with his second album ‘Descent into Ascension (Snapshots of a Mental State)’ this February.

Recorded during a period of withdrawal and isolation, the release serves as a diary of a mental state as the producer worked through a period of challenging mental health. Here, he hones in on his primary love of techno bringing in influences of Bangaltar-ish French house and disco and also pays homage to EBM originators Nitzer Ebb. As to be expected from this Glasgow club community stalwart, this record fully delivers a ream of high energy, driving tracks, raising the bar on the personal brand of no-nonsense techno he’s become respected for.

The album is almost like a diary that charts the way I was feeling over the space of about 4/5 weeks. I made it over a spell where I was going through a really bad depressive period, and I just turned my phone off for a month and went all in on it. Influence-wise it’s right across the board from French house to Nitzer Ebb” – Fear-E

Four years on from Fear-E’s debut long player Clydeside Tales – an exercise in expressing as the full width and breadth of his influences – Descent into Ascension takes a more focused approach, centering on upfront club-designed techno. Shades of Daft Punk surface opening track Loopy Fiasco, which along with Bangaltar’s solo catalogue was on play around the time of writing. The track McCarthy is dedicated to the late Douglas McCarthy of Nitzer Ebb.

I first heard Let Your Body Learn in Richie Hawtin’s Dex, FX & 909 mix back in ’99, which sent me down a rabbit hole with their catalogue. The track McCarthy is named after lead singer and songwriter Douglas McCarthy, who sadly passed recently. Around the same time, ’99/’00, I was getting properly deep into techno, and Robert Hood’s influence was massive – that mindset definitely runs through this.” – Fear-E

Fear-E has built a long-standing reputation for delivering high-quality, club-focused records, with releases on respected imprints such as Dame Music, Dixon Avenue Basement Jams and Dark Entries, alongside running his own label Posh End Music and its hardcore-driven sister imprint Breakbeat Energy. His work is regularly supported by DJs including Dave Clarke, Ben Sims, The Hacker, Randomer, Jerome Hill, Marcel Dettmann and James Ruskin, with airplay across BBC Radio 1 and 6 Music.

Descent Into Ascension (Snapshots of a Mental State) is released on 27 February via Posh End Music, known for its focus on quality underground music and for spotlighting both established artists and emerging talent.
