Afterlife return with Existential, a new album that signals the next chapter for the project while deepening their distinctive approach to immersive, emotionally charged electronic music.
If there is one thing we can say about Afterlife, it is that he has no interest in re-treading familiar clichés or textures. Instead, each album represents another challenge, a continuous pursuit of fresh creative possibilities, with the rewards multiplying each time. So much so that this new album could be his best to date.
The evidence is there in the music itself.
Across fifteen pieces, Existential moves from the relaxed indulgence of the sublime „19 Tones“ to the edgy diatribe coursing through „There’s A Storm Coming“. Then come the exotic charms and colourful chimes of „Sweetgrass“, before the heavenly, rousing chorus of strings forming the exquisite „Absolute“. The deep cinematic tension generated by „Midnight Express“ gives way to the balearic mood of „Cybele“, exciting and tantalising in a dazzling display of slowed-down motion. Completing the collection is the breathless ecstasy of „Lay Me Down“, a serene conclusion to an album rich in atmosphere and deeper feeling.

It may be no coincidence that Existential is being released on World Kindness Day. As the artist says of producing the music: “These tracks were all written reflecting my thoughts about humanity and its future. I realised that if we all help each other every day with kindness, we would need little else to be happy.”
Steve Miller’s masterclass in poise and delight once again reflects an artistic journey built on longevity. Existential is fantastically immersive music, full of unexpected turns and emotional detail, where precision never restricts the free flow of ideas.
