Thirty years ago, Jeff Mills stepped into Tokyo’s Liquid Room and changed electronic music forever.
Recorded live in 1995, Live at Liquid Room became more than a mix, it became mythology. Sixty-eight minutes that captured Mills at his sharpest: fast, fearless, and way ahead of his time. Armed with just two turntables and two reel-to-reel tape machines, Mills rebuilt the rules of DJing on the spot, crafting a performance so intense it still feels untouchable today.
This was techno distilled to its purest form: bold, relentless, and alive. The set that inspired generations of DJs and producers to push harder, go deeper, and never look back.
Now, three decades later, it returns. To mark the anniversary, Jeff Mills and Axis will take Live at Liquid Room on a world tour and release the legendary recording on CD and Cassette.
“30 years ago, Techno music was still in its infancy, still formulating itself and attempting to find firm footing in the genre of Dance Music. Many new artists and records labels were introduced to the World as many DJs were justifiably recognized. This Liquid Room mix marks a cornerstone of the genre. The crossing and never returning back to way things were. Techno could only move forward and it did. “ –Jeff Mills
