Having already made an impressive start to 2026 with their fantastic remix package of D.C. LaRue’s ‘Cathedrals’ album, Dafia Records boss, Mannix, takes on Freeez’s iconic 1981 Brit Funk classic ‘Mariposa’ delivering a set of stunning new remixes. At it’s core ‘Mariposa’ oozes high class musicianship, teased with layers of beautiful Latin Jazz melodies, classy brass and irresistible funky instrumentation, topped with a dreamy Spanish vocal. Mannix works his finely honed magic on this much-loved classic, transporting it into the Disco House arena, where delightful melodies pirouette over a lush discofied groove, destined to inject some welcome chic and sparkle onto the dance floor.
Best known for their iconic 1983 global smash ‘IOU’ (produced by Arthur Baker and mixed with Jellybean Benitez), which reached No. 2 in the UK and No.1 in Dance charts in the US and all over the world. The legendary Freeez, aka John Rocca, were originally a pioneering British jazz-funk group that John formed in London in 1980, with Peter Maas, Andy Stennett and Paul Morgan. A live band from the vibrant Brit Funk scene, Mariposa, was one of the much-loved tracks from John’s self-produced and self-released Brit Funk album ‘Southern Freeez’. The title track itself a No. 1 Dance and crossover pop hit in 1981.
Mannix has been one of Vienna’s most prominent house music pioneers since the early 90’s. His big remixes include Mousse T.’s ‘Maybe In May’, Arnold Jarvis’ ‘Rising Into Joy’, and Luis Radio’s ‘Get Me There’. Mannix’s ‘NO NO NO’ single scored the overall Traxsource and Beatport #1. Mannix has released on Midnight Riot, Peppermint Jam, Tropical Disco, Re-Loved, See-Saw, Duffnote, Only Good Vibes and others. In 2021 he launched Dafia Records, featuring collaborations with artists Lee Wilson, Dina Vass, Fiona Barbier, Andre Espeut, Lisa Shaw and Venessa Jackson, among others.
