Laurent Garnier’s COD3 QR label returns with a new 8 track digital release where France meets the UK
Following two vinyl releases in June and July, Laurent Garnier’s COD3 QR label returns with a new 8 track digital release where France meets the UK. Going head-to-head are 4 tracks by French based artists Alex Finkin, Rocco Rodamaal, DCLVIII OFC, Paul Roux and Sebastian Russell, alongside 4 cuts from Brits, Jay Robinson, Works Of Intent, La4zza and Saytek.
From his roots in House, Alex Finkin is a renowned producer and creative director. Working in his Paris studio he has developed numerous projects, notably his own (Roseaux), as well as commissions for radio and television. Meanwhile, with 30 years of production and DJing under his belt, Rocco Rodamaal belongs to the elite circle of House innovators who continue to influence the scene. He’s played alongside some of the best in the industry showcasing his versatility and deep understanding of the genre, and remixed artists including Marshall Jefferson, Kerri Chandler, Louie Vega & Moodymann, Todd Terry, Barbara Tucker and Robert Owens to name just a few. Alex Finkin befriended Rocco Rodamaal, who he met via the soulful Parisian club Djoon, where Alex was resident from 2006 to 2014. They have since collaborated on a number of projects together, including this opening track, the deep and groovy, “6ème Songe”.
From the UK, Jay Robinson has been in the music scene for a decade. His mix of House, Techno and Bass has found support from all corners of the industry, from Laurent Garnier to Deadmau5 to Idris Elba & more. Jay Robinson’s Mau5trap releases garnered support from the likes of The Black Madonna, Paco Osuna and Danny Tenaglia. Collaborations with Idris Elba, Example and Grammy award winning House / Garage icon Todd Edwards have all added to what has been a great few years for this Welsh wizard. “They Just Talkin'” is upbeat and infectious with its vocal sample and bumpin’ groove.
Anthony Godin a.k.a The White Shadow (FR), has been a veteran of music production for over 2 decades, with more than 25 years of mixing experience. His journey began in the world of melodic Techno, but quickly evolved towards deeper sounds with releases on Suara, Still Von Talent, Einmusika and more. Having decided to put an end to his The White Shadow (FR) alias, he created the DCLVIII OFC project which embodies a more Techno approach, adding subtle progression and a melodic touch, which is perfectly displayed on “Carrousel”.
The made in England mix-engineer-designer-essayist and activist Works Of Intent’s productions are rooted in the UK underground but dripping in both Techno and pop sensibilities. It’s Big Room as you’ve never experienced it before, with storytelling and emotion at its core, which he brings to new track “Archive Our Past”. He’s found a home on labels like Monkeytown, Turbo, Rekids and most recently COD3 QR (who released his debut album in October 2023). Outside the booth he’s a core member of DAYTIMERS, a UK based collective that champions the sounds, stories and voices of South Asian creatives.
Getting an answer from La4zZa is a challenge in itself! When COD3QR asked him to send a short bio, he got back after 10 days with: “Don’t waste your time looking for me on socials, I ain’t there”! Besides that we know he’s a young guy from somewhere near Sheffield, and this is his very first release. The rest is a bit of a mystery. But that’s perfect for a label that always puts the music first and his track “The Five Eight” is a stylish working that defies labelling.
French DJ and producer, Paul Roux, quickly gained prominence in the Techno scene, making a name for himself at a remarkable speed. Since his start in 2021 on the renowned ARTS label, Paul has received praise with a string of impressive releases on labels like R&S, Bedrock, Global Underground, WATB, and now COD3QR, with his aptly titled “Deep Space Jam”.
Over his 20 year career, Saytek has emerged as one of the most revered live acts in the underground techno scene. Hailing from the UK, he has captivated audiences worldwide with his innovative performances, earning a dedicated following and significant acclaim. His mastery has been lauded by techno legends and his live jam videos have garnered 10s of millions of views. In the studio, his prolific output includes over 500 tracks and 10 albums, primarily recorded live, on Carl Cox’s Awesome Soundwave, Kevin Saunderson’s KMS, John Digweed’s Bedrock, as well as SomaRecords, Fabric, R&S and Trax. Now he brings this same ethos to techno track “Back To Where (Live)”
Sebastian Russell has released electronic music since 2004. He has done numerous remixes for artists such as Will Clarke, Born Dirty, Dapayk and Mark Henning, and his track “You Freak” was featured on Richie Hawtin’s mix CD for DJ Mag. He has also written music for advertising and theatre in London where he lived for 19 years. He now resides in the forest in south of France. He closes the latest COD3 QR release with the intricate and experimental electronica of “Fog”.
