Underground System shares ‘Go’ from their debut LP ‘What Are You’ on Soul Clap Records

Underground System, the Brooklyn, NY based band that has built an international reputation via a seamlessly executed stage show and a string of buzzed about 12” singles, is set to release their debut full length LP ‘What Are You’ this September via Soul Clap Records.

Two years in the making – the album ‘What Are You’ is a collection of 10 brand new tracks as sonically diverse as the band members are culturally.

The first single from the record, ‘Go’, is a perfectly palatable left turn that introduces the sound the band has grown into- threads of Underground System’s roots as students of Fela Kuti’s music can still be found everywhere: looped guitar lines, driving percussion, and a transformative bridge filled with chanting and farfisa organ. What takes front and center stage however, is a powerful and concise song form that harkens to the bands original development spending years working on material around New York. Impossible to not hear the nods to classic new wave, post-punk, and DFA era downtown classics. What makes it stick is that the way all these influences are synthesized has clearly become their own.
