Interview: Introducing Rising indie-pop artist Euan Blackman

Rising indie-pop artist Euan Blackman returns with ‘girl’, his most anthemic release to date, on Ripe Records. It’s a true coming-of-age singalong that promotes pop with purpose, wit with vulnerability, and one massive chorus you’ll be humming for weeks.

Euan Blackman has been quietly building something powerful. His introspective, evergreen songs soundtrack shared memories with soft, nostalgic storytelling. Euan’s songwriting has already garnered the attention of major tastemakers and musical heroes alike. His music has been supported by BBC Radio 6 Music, Billboard, and Time Magazine.

Since his earliest days playing guitar in primary school and fronting bands as a teenager, Blackman has remained committed to the craft. From writing and producing songs in his bedroom to building a grassroots fanbase on TikTok, he’s learning that dedication to songwriting, live performance, and production really does pay off. That commitment came full circle when he headlined a sold-out Cavern Club show for the BBC, meeting fans in real life who had first discovered him online.

We caught up with Euan to find out more.

dubiks: You’ve just released your new single “Girl”—can you tell us a little more about the story behind the song?

Girl is probably the most direct and poppy my music has ever sounded. There’s no deep introspection and attempts of being clever lyrically. Sometimes you just want to write a banger that people can sing and dance to. It’s for all the divas out there.

dubiks: “Girl” is already getting radio play in the UK. Do you think emerging artists are being given enough space and support on mainstream radio?

I think there are far too many music industry gatekeepers in the UK. The difference between getting airplay and breaking through is rarely the music, but just the fact somebody knows somebody who knows someone. You can make great tunes, have a really engaged fanbase and not see any radio support, but I don’t think it’s anything to stress about. I’ve built my own community just using social media. releasing songs and playing live shows. The industry peeps will be late to the party. Make music for the fans, not them.

dubiks: You’re known to be a big Springsteen fan. Imagine he invites you on stage in June in Liverpool to perform “Girl”—what would your reaction be? How would you feel, and who’s the first person you’d call?

My first reaction would be can we play one of your songs instead haha. Thunder Road, Racing in the Street – ‘girl’ isn’t worth comparing lmao. Although it would be quite funny to hear a 75 year old Bruce sing “She got the tiny hoops glasses on, YSL, silk chiffon”.

Bruce is my hero, not just musically, but a true role model. I’d be an emotional wreck to be within 2 metres of him, let alone do anything remotely musical with him. The first people I’d call would be my mum and dad, who would probably be equally as non-verbal and emotional too.

dubiks: As a new artist coming from Liverpool, do you feel it’s easier or more challenging to break into the music scene?

Liverpool is my favourite city in the UK. It definitely comes with its challenges being away from the London scene. However, almost everything in my music career has come through social media, and lots of Liverpool organisations such as LIMF academy have helped develop me as an artist and person to navigate my way through this career. Liverpool is a very supportive environment, and I am surrounded by seriously talented artists every single day. The main disadvantage is being able to perform live for my incredibly spread internet audience around the world. The plan is to become big enough to tour the live show, and deliver the songs live to those supporting me from day 1 online.

dubiks: 2025 has already been a strong year for you—what else can fans expect before the year is over?

I’ve got some genuinely incredible music to release this year. I’m in such a great place musically and the mixes of new tunes are sounding unreal. It’s not ego, I just am really proud of the songs I have created. There will be more live shows too around the UK, including London later in the year. As well as plans to make some really cool visuals/videos too. Don’t forget to join my Discord and tune into my regular TikTok live streams too, I’m always leaking new tunes and sharing news early there.
